Find Simpson Detention Releases

To find someone released from Simpson County Detention Center, begin with the record created when that person left the jail, then compare it with custody notices and the court case. The live county portal is built for current detainees, so a missing name does not explain whether the person returned to the community or moved into another agency's custody. This Simpson County release guide separates a bond-out or completed county sentence from a transfer, a state-prison placement, and later community supervision. It also shows where to request the local record when no released-person archive is online.

Simpson Detention Release Routes

The Simpson County Detention Center is the county's only confirmed adult detention facility. Elected Jailer Eric Vaughn operates it. People held there do not all have the same legal status, and that status controls what leaving the building means. A local pretrial detainee may leave on recognizance, an unsecured or secured bond, dismissal, or another court order. A sentenced county inmate may leave after time served or sentence expiration. Either person can still have a pending case, probation, or another hold.

The jail also has a state-prisoner role. A person serving a Kentucky felony sentence can remain physically housed in a county jail as a Class D or other DOC-managed prisoner. Moving that person from Franklin to a state institution or another placement is a transfer, not a community release. If Kentucky DOC releases a state prisoner directly from a county-jail placement, KOOL, DOC Daily Releases, and VINE may carry the useful state record. This overlap is why the last agency with physical custody and the receiving destination matter more than simple roster absence.

Three different events: leaving Simpson County custody, returning to the community, and completing all sentence or supervision duties can happen on different dates.

Confirm a Simpson Jail Release

Start with the detention center's release or movement transaction. Ask for the booking identifier, admission and release timestamps, release type, authority, bond details, and receiving agency when the person transferred. Those are requested fields, not a claim that every item exists in one form. The jail may answer with database fields, a booking sheet, movement history, bond paper, or a court attachment.

  1. Check the official current portal only to see whether the person is shown in local custody.
  2. Search Kentucky VINELink for the same person and read the reporting agency and event type.
  3. Review the Simpson court case for the order that authorized bond, dismissal, commitment, or another result.
  4. Use KOOL and DOC Daily Releases when the person was state-sentenced or held for Kentucky DOC.
  5. Request the jail transaction if the public sources do not state what happened.

The Simpson County released-inmate search and records guide explains the full identity-matching path. Use a booking number, case number, date of birth, or DOC identifier when available. A similar name alone is not enough.

Release proof: A jail movement record shows physical custody changed. A court order shows legal authority. A VINE event can corroborate the reporting agency's action.

Simpson Release Records Contact

The separately elected Jailer is the proper starting custodian for jail-created booking, movement, and release records. The detention center lists 217 E. Kentucky Ave., Franklin, KY 42134, phone 270-586-5351, and email info@simpsoncojail.org. Simpson County's own detention-center page writes the street as 217 E. Kentucky St. Both sources use the same city and ZIP code. Confirm whether “Avenue” or “Street” should be used before mailing a request or traveling.

A focused request should identify the person and approximate confinement dates. Ask for “records sufficient to show” the release date and time, type, authority, and destination or receiving agency to the extent maintained and open. Save the sent request, proof of delivery, response, attachments, and any cited exemption. Kentucky's Open Records Act generally requires a written response within five business days, but that is not a promise that every responsive record will arrive in that time.

Current Simpson Custody Portal

The jail links a “Current Inmate List” and describes it as information about current detainees. It is not labeled a release archive. A name that no longer appears supplies no reason for the change. The person could have bonded out, completed a sentence, transferred to DOC or another county, entered federal or immigration custody, escaped, or had another status update.

The official current-inmate portal shows the live search layout pictured below. Its purpose and limits should be kept together so the screen is not mistaken for a list of released people.

This view can support a finding of current local custody when a well-matched record appears. When no match appears, obtain the movement record before describing the event as release.

Simpson Bond Release Steps

Bond can authorize a pretrial return to the community, but an order is not the physical exit. Simpson's official bond page says Pretrial Services interviews each inmate within 24 hours of booking. Bond information and conditions are generally returned to the jail by 1 p.m. That published time concerns information reaching the jail, not a standard release hour.

The jail describes recognizance, unsecured or surety, partially secured, bail credit when authorized, and full cash bonds. Exact cash is required. A cash bond over $10,000 must be made through the Circuit Clerk. The page also publishes charges for people bonding out, including a $55 administration and booking charge, $5 jail bond charge, $25 court filing charge, and $50 per day housing charge. Confirm the current sum and process with the jail or clerk before making payment.

The detention center's bond page is captured below because it documents Simpson-specific release mechanics rather than a statewide assumption.

The bond page helps explain why court authorization, financial completion, administrative clearance, and physical exit can carry different timestamps.

Simpson Detention Center Profile

Simpson County describes the detention center as a 162-bed jail with 55 full- and part-time employees. It houses local pretrial and sentenced people as well as people connected to the Kentucky state-prison system. The published SCORE program uses individual files and case plans, classes, public service, and the “New Directions” program. Its listed DOC program credits apply to qualified residents and remain subject to DOC calculations and governing law. Participation alone does not establish a release date.

No authoritative source located a separate municipal holding facility or a state, BOP, or ICE prison physically in Simpson County. Those agencies still matter as possible receiving systems. A person picked up by USMS or ICE has left county custody by transfer. A person moved under Kentucky DOC remains confined or placed under that agency until a later record shows otherwise.

Old Simpson Jail History

Simpson County has a real jail history, but the old building must not be confused with today's detention center. The county historical archive's old-jail account documents that local history. It belongs in a historical note, not an active facility list, address card, or current release search.

For present custody, use the detention center's current portal and contact information. For a past exit, request the modern release or movement record. Historical material provides local context but cannot confirm who is currently jailed, who left custody, or where a person went.

Simpson Release Logistics Gaps

No official source publishes ordinary release-processing hours, the physical exit door, a family waiting point, transportation arrangements, weekend or holiday procedure, property return, or a local error-correction workflow. Those gaps should remain gaps. Another Kentucky jail's practice cannot safely be imported into Simpson County.

Call 270-586-5351 for current instructions before travel. Ask whether the expected event is a community release or an agency pickup, and do not assume that a court date or bond-information time is the exit time. If the destination is not public, request it from the movement record to the extent maintained and subject to disclosure.
