Simpson County Release Records
A release from the Simpson County Detention Center means that the jail’s physical custody ended. It does not always mean unrestricted freedom. A person may return to the community on bond, complete a county sentence, enter probation, leave prison on parole, or move directly into another agency’s custody. The jail’s movement transaction is the best record of the physical event. A court order explains the authority, while VINE may corroborate the reported custody change.
The distinction matters because the detention center houses several legal groups. It holds people awaiting court action, people serving local sentences, and some state-sentenced prisoners managed by the Kentucky Department of Corrections. A state prisoner can leave the Simpson roster for a prison or other placement without being released into the community. “Released from the jail,” “released from prison,” and “finally discharged” are three different claims.
- Release
- The end of one agency’s physical custody.
- Transfer
- A move to another custodian, with confinement continuing.
- Parole
- Release from imprisonment under Kentucky DOC supervision after the required decision.
- Probation
- Court-ordered community supervision, sometimes following a jail stay.
- Discharge
- The later end of the sentence or supervision obligation.
How Simpson County Custody Ends
The reason for departure determines the next reliable source. Simpson’s published bond information describes recognizance, unsecured or surety, partially secured, bail-credit when authorized, and full cash bonds. A dismissal or signed release order may also end local custody. Sentenced people can leave at time served or sentence expiration. State cases may lead to parole, mandatory reentry, or a DOC transfer.
| Event | Meaning | Next record |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | Pretrial custody ends; the case continues | Jail transaction and court docket |
| Time served | Custodial portion is complete | Release record and sentencing order |
| Parole or reentry | Prison custody ends under supervision | KOOL, DOC releases, VINE, supervision office |
| Transfer | Custody moves to another agency | Movement record and receiving locator |
| Final discharge | Sentence or supervision ends | DOC or court discharge record |
An escape is never a release. Death also ends custody but is not a community release. Precise language prevents a roster disappearance from becoming a false conclusion.
What Simpson Release Records Show
A narrow request should seek the fields that identify the person, event, authority, and destination. Simpson County has not published a single online release form showing every field. The custodian may respond with database entries, a booking sheet, a jail card, a movement history, a bond receipt, or an attached court order.
| Requested field | What it establishes |
|---|---|
| Booking identifier | Connects the release to the correct confinement |
| Admission date and time | Defines the custody period |
| Release date and time | Records the physical exit transaction |
| Release type or disposition | Separates bond, sentence end, release, and transfer |
| Authority or court order | Identifies the legal basis |
| Bond details | Shows the recorded bond type and amount |
| Destination or receiving agency | Shows whether custody continued elsewhere |
| Booking photograph | Links an official image, if maintained and disclosable |
A court’s signed time, bond posting, administrative clearance, VINE report, and physical exit can differ without any source being wrong. Preserve each timestamp and ask what it represents.
Request Simpson County Release Records
Start with the separately elected Simpson County Jailer and Detention Center, not the Sheriff, for jailer-created booking and movement material. The jail lists 217 E. Kentucky Ave., Franklin, KY 42134, 270-586-5351, and info@simpsoncojail.org. County material calls the same street “East Kentucky Street,” so confirm the wording before travel. Describe records rather than asking staff to research a conclusion.
- Give the full name plus a booking number, date of birth, case number, or narrow custody date range.
- Ask for records sufficient to show booking and release times, release type, authority, bond entry, and transfer destination if maintained.
- Request an existing electronic export for a date-window list. The agency need not create a new analysis merely because no compiled list exists.
- Save the sent request, delivery proof, response, attachments, and any cited exemption.
- If a file is archived, ask for its record-series name, locator, storage location, copy options, and expected availability.
Kentucky’s Open Records Act, KRS 61.870 through 61.884, generally requires a written response within five business days. That is a response deadline, not a universal delivery promise. The Simpson County Sheriff publishes separate police-report and media fees, but those charges cannot be assumed to govern detention-center records.
Simpson Release Retention and Expungement
The County Jailer Records Retention Schedule governs official record series behind the counter. It does not establish how long a released name stays online. Simpson publishes no released-person archive and no public retention window. Ask for the record series by person, booking identifier, and approximate dates instead of assuming that portal absence means destruction.
Kentucky expungement involves certification and a petition filed in the county of the original charge. The Court of Justice expungement process can change public access to qualifying records. Sealing or expungement does not turn a missing public result into proof that no custody event occurred. Eligibility depends on the disposition, offense, waiting period, and current law.
Simpson Jail Bond-Out Timing
The detention center’s bond page provides the most concrete local release mechanics. It says Pretrial Services interviews each inmate within 24 hours after booking and that bond amounts and conditions are generally returned to the jail by 1 p.m. daily. Those milestones are not promised exit times. Other holds, court processing, payment, identity checks, or transfer arrangements can still affect the physical departure.
The jail publishes exact-cash rules and charges tied to bonding out, including a $55 administration and booking charge, a $5 jail bond charge, a $25 court filing charge, and $50 per day in housing charges. Cash bonds above $10,000 must be made at the Circuit Clerk’s office. Verify the current amount and correct payment location before acting.
The official bond page shows Simpson County’s current categories and instructions.

When Simpson Jail Releases Inmates
No official source gives ordinary release hours, an exit door, a waiting location, weekend procedures, transportation options, or a property-return sequence. Those gaps must remain gaps. Call the detention center at 270-586-5351 for person-specific instructions before traveling. A court order or bond payment can precede administrative clearance and the actual exit.
Getting home after a Simpson County release is likewise not documented as a jail service. Do not assume that transportation, a waiting area, identification, medication, clothing, or property retrieval follows another county’s practice. Ask the jail what may be brought, where pickup is allowed, and whether a transfer prevents a community pickup.
Find Released Simpson County Inmates
Begin with the last known custodian. The official jail site links a Current Inmate List for current detainees. An absent name is only a lead. It can mean bond, dismissal, sentence completion, transfer, escape, a data mismatch, or another status change.
- Check the current Simpson roster and record the time of the check.
- Search Kentucky VINELink for the same person and confirm the reporting agency and identifiers.
- Use KOOL if state imprisonment or community supervision may apply.
- Check dated DOC Daily Releases for a state-managed release near the likely date.
- Review the Simpson court docket and obtain the underlying order when shorthand is unclear.
- Request the detention-center movement record for the physical time, reason, and destination.
- Use BOP, PACER, ICE, or the receiving county only when the facts point to that system.
The Simpson County 24 hour release process and 72 hour request method explain how to seek existing transactions for a defined window. Simpson does not publish either rolling feed.
Simpson County Offender Search
Kentucky Offender Online Lookup, known as KOOL, covers state offenders and people supervised by Kentucky DOC. It does not serve as a historical log for every local arrest. Search a unique match, inspect current status and location first, and only then interpret sentence dates and parole history.
| KOOL search field | Use |
|---|---|
| Name and aliases | Begin a broad identity match |
| DOC or PID | Resolve a specific state record |
| Supervision status | Separate prison, community, and other statuses |
| Location and type | Distinguish an institution from a supervision office |
| County of supervision | Narrow community supervision to Simpson |
| Projected release range | Find a predictive date, not a completed event |
KOOL warns that updates and accuracy improvements occur daily, that information is not guaranteed, and that offender data newer than 120 days may not be finalized. Its Expected Time To Serve, Minimum Expiration or Good Time, Parole Eligibility, Proposed Release, and Maximum Expiration labels answer different questions. A community Probation and Parole location can show prison release with supervision continuing.
The official KOOL landing page displays these system cautions.

Simpson Court Orders and Release
The Simpson County Circuit Court Clerk maintains the court side of the event. CourtNet and the case file may show bond, recognizance, dismissal, sentencing, jail credit, probation, revocation, commitment, or later orders. The clerk’s office is at 101 N. Court St. in Franklin and lists weekday hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with phone numbers 270-586-4241 and 270-586-8910.
A court order explains why release was authorized. It does not necessarily capture the moment the person walked out. An open case does not prove present custody, and a closed case does not prove that supervision or imprisonment ended. Match the county, division, identity, and case number before using a docket entry.
Check Simpson Post-Release Supervision
Simpson County belongs to Kentucky DOC Probation and Parole District 2. KOOL can be searched by exact name or identifier, supervision status, and county of supervision. A result tied to a community office can mean the person has left prison while remaining under legal supervision. The Simpson satellite at 1004 Brookhaven Road in Franklin lists 270-586-6881.
Not every local release leads to DOC supervision. A person released on bond or after a completed misdemeanor may fall outside that system. The Simpson County probation and parole page separates parole, probation, mandatory reentry, an absconded status, and final discharge.
Simpson SCORE and Release Dates
The SCORE program combines case planning, classes, public service, and locally described reentry work. Kentucky DOC may award qualifying program credits to eligible state prisoners, but participation does not guarantee an earlier release or a fixed number of days. Statutory eligibility, sentence structure, completion records, forfeiture, restoration, detainers, and DOC calculation all matter.
The local program page describes SCORE’s services and credit context.

Simpson Release Alerts and Transfers
Kentucky VINELink offers a person-specific custody search and notification registration. Match the person and reporting agency, then distinguish release, transfer, and escape events. A release alert means the reporting agency ended its custody. It cannot rule out another hold or immediate pickup. The statewide service publishes 1-800-511-1670; Simpson’s helpful-contacts page lists a different VINE number, so verify the live channel.
A Simpson-to-ICE or U.S. Marshals movement is a transfer, not a community release. ICE’s locator is current-custody oriented, and no result is not affirmative proof of release. USMS offers no comparable historical locator. Follow the federal docket and later BOP record when federal custody is involved.
The Kentucky VINELink landing screen starts a Simpson County custody check.

Federal Releases Linked to Simpson
The BOP inmate locator covers federal prisoners from 1982 forward and can show a past Release Date with no current BOP facility. That establishes departure from BOP custody, not freedom from supervised release, state custody, local custody, or immigration detention. Search by federal identifier when possible, or use name plus age, race, and sex refiners.
The official BOP locator shows the federal result format.

Where Simpson Release Status Appears
Use each channel only for the custody it covers. Combining independent records is stronger than stretching one portal beyond its stated scope.
| Source | Best use | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Current jail portal | Present local custody | No released archive or rolling feed |
| Jail movement record | Physical exit, type, and destination | Must usually be requested |
| VINE | Reported custody event and alert | Agency-specific; transfer differs from release |
| KOOL and Daily Releases | State custody, dates, and supervision | Not every local case |
| Court file | Legal authority and disposition | Order time may differ from exit time |
| BOP | Federal custody and past release date | Does not exclude another system |
